Spring Outfit Inspiration

I have been busy searching Pinterest for inspiration for my upcoming trip to Italy with my lovely mamma. We are finally taking our much needed girls trip and we thought what's better than being in the Italian countryside in the spring?!

I have always loved European fashion. How they will take just a simple, ordinary day and dress as though it's a day worth dressing up for! I think there is something so classically chic about putting together a stylish outfit, even to run to the market. So I have put together some inspiration pictures from pinterest and some links to similar items I have in my own closet or that I am picking up before I fly out!

Airport Outfit

Flying direct from Calgary to Rome is about 10 hours, but with Westjet, you always fly over night. This is actually a great flight because your body naturally wants to sleep and then you land at around noon Rome time; leaving a good chunk of the day for exploring!

When flying, I love being comfortable, but I also want to look put-together. Layers are also really important to me while flying. I find the airport can either be freezing or very warm & muggy. And the airplane can often be unpredictable with the temperature. That's why for this trip I am planning on wearing a matching navy sweatsuit, runners, and my new trench coat overtop. Whenever wearing a matching set, I also love layering a white t-shirt underneath to not only elevate the look, but I can also remove my sweater if I find myself getting too warm.

One of my least favourite parts of going through the airport security is having to remove my shoes. For this reason, I ALWAYS wear shoes with socks; that way I am never barefoot in the airport. I also find wearing my most bulky shoes on the plane helps leave more room in my suitcase for other items.

If you are looking for an extremely soft and comfortable matching set, check-out Aerie! I got my navy pair from there in their Cloud-Fleece line.

Dressing for Cooler Days

This time of year, central & northern Italy can range from the high-teens to mid-twenties (celcius). But it is still spring time, which means they do have cooler days and can have some showers. So when packing, I have to keep in mind outfits that can interchange between warm and cooler days.

Trench Coat for Layering

As I mentioned in my travel outfit, I am bringing a trench that is full length and waterproof. This will be perfect to layer over outfits if it rains or during a chilly evening. I got my coat from Oak+Fork and it is perfect! I love it and I always get compliments when I wear it.

I will also be packing my most comfortable pair of wide leg jeans. Mine are Levi's and they have the cutest tie detail. In my opinion, jeans are the most versatile article of clothing to pair with multiple tops & create various styles. The other pair of pants I will be bringing are the Aritzia Lodge Pant. I LOVE these pants! They look chic and fancy, but they are unbelievably comfy. They look great dressed up, but they also look fantastic with just a cozy knit.

All of these options can be worn with tank tops, t-shirts, or even sweaters; depending on the weather. These are just some examples of how versatile 3 staples can be.

Dressing for Warmer Days

Now for the part I have really been looking forward to, the warm weather outfits! These are the outfits I am hoping to wear throughout the day, and dress them up with accessories for the evening. I am bringing 3 skirts for this trip. A pleated skirt, a long jean skirt, and a short jean skirt. I will also be bringing a few maxi dresses (and who am I kidding--probably a few short fun sundresses incase it gets to 25!). All of these items, I can throw on a tank top, a t-shirt, a cozy knit, or a jacket depending on the weather throughout the day.

I got both of my jean skirts from American Eagle a few years ago. They have held up so well. I have wore them multiple times and have brought them on many different trips. For this trip, I got a beautiful pleated skirt from Aritzia. It is in a sage green colour and I cannot wait to wear it out and about on the cobblestone streets. Here is a link to a similar style of skirt.

Has anyone else been obsessed with the sky blue colour trend this spring? Because I know I have! I got a new dress in this dream shade from Aritzia, it's called the Tuberose dress. It has small ruffle details and tier layers. I also have my eye on a linen dress with a scoop back, just like the picture above. A maxi dress is one of my all time favourite outfits to wear on holidays. They are comfortable, light-weight, and you always look chic and put together.

Shoes

For this trip I am only bringing a few pairs of shoes. For runners, I am bringing my Adidas Sambas. Mine are white, with light pink stripes. I love that the colour is so subtle, but it adds a beautiful unexpected detail. I sadly cannot find my exact pair, but I have linked a beautiful lilac striped option.

Next, I am of course packing my Birkenstocks. I own a few different pairs, but I think I am going to pack my Arizona Suede in Light Rose. Similar to my pink Sambas, I love adding a little bit of colour to my outfit with my shoes. I tend to wear very neutral tones in my wardrobe, so having some colour on my shoes is always a lot of fun. I might also bring my waterproof birks. These are just so comfortable and I always love having an option I don't mind getting wet.

Lastly, I am going to bring one pair of block heel sandals. I want an option to wear at night when going out for cocktails or a nice dinner. Of course these are not shoes I would be wearing on a daily basis exploring side streets in Alba, but they are comfortable enough to wear on short walks between restaurants. The block heels are a necessity for me, because if I tried to wear regular skinny heels on cobblestone streets, I know I would end up twisting an ankle... or worse! I got my sandals last year from Joe Fresh believe it or not, and they are so comfortable and easy to pack on vacation. I have found a similar pair here from Steve Madden.

Thank you...

I hope this post has been helpful when starting to think about spring wardrobes! Or maybe you are headed out on your own trip this spring. Should we look into jewelry and hair trends for this spring next? What styles or trends are you loving this season?
